Privacy Policy — Ambient Light for Social Feeds

Ambient Light for Social Feeds ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that draws a decorative glow behind photos and videos on the web versions of TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
Summary
The extension does not collect, sell or share any personal data. It has no servers, makes no network requests, and contains no analytics, ads or tracking. Everything happens inside your browser.
What is processed, and how
None of the data categories listed in the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures are collected. To draw the glow, the extension processes the following locally, in memory only, on the page you are viewing:
- Page layout and colors. It reads the size, position and background color of page elements, so it can place the glow behind the page and make page backgrounds see-through.
- Images and videos on screen. It draws small, low-resolution copies of visible images and video frames (48-pixel thumbnails and a blurred, screen-sized glow layer) onto canvases inside the page. The extension's code does not read or analyze the pixel values, and these copies disappear when you leave or close the page.
- Addresses. It compares the page address and the address of each image/video in memory, only to notice when you navigate (for example, it switches itself off on the direct-message pages of every supported site, within about a second if you open one without reloading the page) or when a photo or video changes.
- Activity signals. Scrolling, clicks and key presses are used only as "redraw now" signals. The extension does not record which key you pressed or what you clicked, and it ignores typing in text fields.
It does not read the text of posts, comments or messages, your account details, cookies or passwords. None of the information above is stored or sent anywhere.
What is stored
Only your settings for the extension (on/off, per-site switches and appearance options such as strength, blur and quality). They are saved with Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device, are not synced, and are removed when you uninstall the extension.
What is shared
Nothing. No data is transmitted to the developer or to any third party.
Permissions
storage: to save your settings on your device.- Access to www.tiktok.com, www.facebook.com, web.facebook.com, www.instagram.com and www.threads.com: to draw the glow on those pages. The extension does not access any other website.
Children
The extension does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices ever change, this page and its effective date will be updated before the new version is published.
